BOTANICAL ILLUSTRATION
From Ancient Egyptian times until the present day, plants have
been illustrated. The botanical illustrator can render the plant
in far more detail than is possible with a photograph. It can
be done in many media but watercolor is the most popular because
of its transparency. Botanical Illustrators strive to create an
accurate and aesthetically pleasing representation of a plant.
They need knowledge of basic perspective, a good grasp of color
theory, composition and a comprehensive knowledge of botany. Three
dimensional form is depicted by utilizing the elements of light
and depth to create the composition. Botanical illustration is
a challenging liaison between the disciplines of science and art.
